Sŵn 2017 FAQ
- Please note that these FAQ’s apply to the Discovery Day event-only on Saturday 21st Oct.
Q: Does a wristband get you into every show?A: Subject to venue capacity, a wristband will get you into every show that’s part of the Discovery Day on Saturday October 21st. If there’s a particular band you REALLY want to see, then we suggest heading to that venue nice and early. We handpick ALL the bands who play Sŵn, and we think they’re all top notch, so don’t despair if a venue’s full (which can happen from time to time) – go explore! If you want to go to any of the Sŵn Festival 2017 Presents shows throughout September and October then these are all ticketed separately as one-off shows.Q: Where’s the headliners? I’ve not heard of any of these bands.Few people had heard of Alt-J, Rag N Bone Man, Ben Howard, The Vaccines or Disclosure when they played Sŵn too. This particular day is all about discovering new music and new names, without bigger acts competing for your attention. We handpick all the bands, so we believe the quality is high, and we hope you approve, love them and find some new favourites. Dive in!
Q: “I’m under 18 but I really like lots of the bands, can I come please?”
A: In short, no. Many venues we use in Cardiff now operate 18+ only on weekends, or have early curfew on 16+ or 14+ licenses which would make it difficult to ensure those coming to Sŵn aged 14-18 were able to see enough of the bands that they want to. We’re disappointed by this, but have to respect the licences of the venues we work with.
Q: Will tickets be sold at the weekend?
A: If we’re not sold out in advance, then yes, they will be on sale at the Wristband Exchange @ Castle Emporium. However, if you think you are going to come to Sŵn, we definitely recommend you buy your ticket beforehand. Regardless, if there are tickets on sale on the day, they will be more expensive than our advance tickets.
Q: “I only want to see one band, can I get a ticket just for them?”
A: No. On the Discovery Day you can’t buy tickets for any individual shows.
Q: How accessible is Sŵn?
A: Each of our venues pages have specific accessibility information on them, but if you have any questions about venues or getting around Cardiff, don’t hesitate to email us at info(at)swnfest.com Please also make us aware if you have any particular conditions or issues so we can endeavour to make your day and night as open and fun as possible.
Q: How close to each other are Sŵn’s venues?
A: All venues are walkable. With so many bands on over the day though, you might want to bring some decent shoes to dash about in. We’ll have a full map up on our venues page a bit closer to the event.
Q: Will you be posting set times in advance?
A: Absolutely.. It takes us a lot of time to cram and organise where everyone is playing and when, but we will be announcing the full schedule before the event, so do look out on the website nearer the time and print yourself one out. There will also be a Sŵn planner on our iPhone app too, and we’ll print some schedules for you to pick up at the Wristband Exchange.
Q: Is there anything to do after the bands have finished?
A: Heck yes. There’ll be DJs performing and plenty of Swn-based club nights, plus of course, there are dozens of places to party in Cardiff ’til the small hours, most of which are minutes away from Sŵn venues, and some of whom will offer free (or discounted) entry with a Sŵn wristband. We’ll publish plenty of recommendations in our schedule.
Q: Can I volunteer for Sŵn?
A: Yes! There’s a variety of stuff you can help with such as meeting and greeting bands, loading and decorating venues, checking wristbands, working at the wristband exchange or even doing a stint. If you’re a keen bean, fill in this form here and we’ll give you a shout with more info.
