Utter the word Colorama to any serious indie music fan and you’ll get a knowing wink or firm
handshake. Why? Because frontman Carwyn Ellis composes, plays and sings some of the most awe inspiring and beautiful songs heard this decade.
Their three albums so far are delightful explorations of chiming melodies, consummately arranged acoustic instruments, and dreamy psychedelia. As an in demand musician Carwyn may have worked with Oasis, Shane MacGowan and Edywn Collins, amongst others, but it’s his own Cardiff based group Colorama that really deserve the most attention. Singing songs in both English and Welsh that reach straight for the heart, Colorama also possess a musical agility which impresses not just for its eclecticism and variety, but for its soulful depth too. Colorama is fast becoming one of Wales’s most compelling musical exports.
